Seven Contestants Head to Saturday's Grand Finals
After three tense eviction rounds, the fifteen contestants admitted into the MTN Y’ello Academy on 30 July 2022 have been reduced to seven.
The seven finalists are Keith Hunder, Davidetta Bainda, Rewina (Winn) Henneh, Andrew Williams, John Rudolph During (Eye Ru, Sr.), Vanessa Karn, and Jervis Johnson.
According to Head Judge, Chris Wolo, in a twist, one of the evicted contestants was brought back to compete in the Grand Final after the judges were asked to save one contestant.
That lucky contestant is Eye Ru, Sr.
The 28-year-old Grand Bassa native said that he was shocked when he was evicted because he spent so much time reaching out to his contacts on social media.
“I posted videos on my Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages. I generated more than two-thousand votes. So, when I was evicted, I was in disbelief.”
The judges and audiences' votes are weighted 60-40 with 60% in favour of the judges to decide contestant scoring.
When Eye Ru received word that he would compete in the Grand Finale, one word came to his mind.
"Grateful," he said. "I pray I win this. Winning means so much to my life. I am fully willing to serve my people and represent Liberia, anywhere, anyhow, anytime."
The seven contestants have appeared on local media, toured Lonestar Cell MTN facilities, have a live Facebook interaction with fans.
They also performed at the biggest karaoke event in Liberia.
Now, the seven finalists are preparing duets, and self- composed for the Grand Final. through duets and self-composed songs. Specially assigned songs have been designated for each contestant in case they are lucky enough to make it to the last round of the competition.
The MTN Yello Star Edition Two Grand Final takes place Saturday 10 September at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town at 6pm.
The winner walks away with a brand-new car, cash, six months' worth of gas from SNS, a recording contract, and other prizes.
After their performances, audiences will have one hour to vote for their favourite contestant using the USSD codes listed below.
